World Photography League Awards

Rules

Your guide to league events, membership, submission allowances, judging and publication.

01

The League

World Photography League Awards brings amateur and professional photographers together in an annual programme of photography events. Each league year contains scheduled events, with one event open for submissions at a time.

Follow the current event announcement for its categories, eligibility, submission window and judging schedule. A league year, an individual event and the validity period of a membership are different: check each date before entering.

02

Your Account

Submit through your World Photography League Awards account. Use accurate photographer, country and contact details, and keep your sign-in information private. Your public profile connects your selected work with your league results.

Only submit work you created and have permission to enter and publish. Check the event requirements before submitting previously awarded work or entering the same work again; acceptance by another competition does not determine eligibility here.

03

How to Enter

Sign in, open Submit Photo in your dashboard and use the current event. Choose an available category, provide the title and requested information, upload your files and complete the submission.

Check My Entries to confirm that the work has been recorded and to follow its status. Buying membership or an extra pack increases your submission access; it does not upload or submit an entry for you.

04

Preparing Files

Use the file requirements shown in the submission form for the current event. File-size and image-dimension limits are set by the organiser and may differ between events. Keep your original files available if verification is requested.

  • Upload a genuine, readable image file in a format accepted by the form.
  • Check the preview, orientation, title and category before submitting.
  • For a series, follow the image-count and ordering requirements shown for that entry type.
  • Follow the event rules for editing, composites, AI-generated content and identifying marks; ask the organiser if eligibility is unclear.

05

Membership and Event Allowance

Free access and paid annual membership levels have submission allowances set by the administrator. See Membership for the available plans, their current prices and the allowance for each event. Do not assume that a plan allows unlimited entries.

Your allowance applies separately to each event. Entries already recorded for an event count towards its usage. A new event has its own usage counter; unused allowance is not a transferable balance between events.

An active membership does not extend an event deadline or guarantee acceptance, an award or a ranking position. The current event must still be open when you submit.

06

Extra Photo Packs

Available extra packs are shown in your dashboard for the current event. Each pack adds the displayed number of submission slots to that event after payment is confirmed.

Extra packs do not change your membership level, extend its expiry date or reopen a closed event. They are tied to the event on the order and cannot be carried into another event or league year. Check the event and remaining submission time before paying.

07

Authorship and Publication

You remain the copyright holder of your work. Provide accurate authorship and captions, and obtain any permissions needed for the people, locations or third-party material included in your submission.

Accepted and awarded work may be selected for the league gallery, photographer profiles and editorial publications, subject to the publication terms accepted at submission. Review those terms before entering; this page does not grant additional rights to unrelated commercial use.

08

Review and Judging

Submission and validation are separate from judging. Work is reviewed for the event requirements before progressing through the judging workflow. A submitted or validated entry is not automatically a winning entry.

Assigned judges assess eligible work under the event judging criteria. Results are prepared and published by the organiser. Membership level and purchased extra slots are access options, not judging scores or awards.

09

Awards, Points and Rankings

The league distinguishes first place (Gold), second place (Silver), third place (Bronze), Honorable Mention and Acceptance. The applicable award-point values, thresholds and any event weighting are configured by the organiser for the league year.

A jury score evaluates an entry; league points contribute to photographer standings under the applicable scoring rules. These are not necessarily the same number. Buying a membership or an extra pack does not award league points.

Ranking views include season photographers, season photos, event photographers and all-time photographers. Select the relevant year and event before comparing results. A country filter shows standing within the selected country rather than the unfiltered worldwide position.

10

Renewal, Upgrades and Expiry

Your membership page shows your current level and expiry date. Review the amount and validity details at checkout when renewing or upgrading. An upgrade changes your allowance without resetting the entries you have already submitted.

When paid membership expires, your account is not deleted. Your submission access returns to the free allowance configured by the administrator. Existing entries, results and profile history remain; further submissions depend on the current allowance and event status.

11

Payments and Order Status

Check the membership or extra pack, event where applicable, currency and total on the payment page before confirming. Access is updated after the payment has been verified, not simply because an invoice was created or the browser returned to the dashboard.

If payment appears successful but access has not updated, check your invoice and dashboard before paying again. Contact support with the invoice reference. For cancellations or refund questions, consult the terms displayed at checkout and contact the organiser; no automatic refund promise is made here.

12

Editing and Submission Deadlines

Entry editing, including image replacement, is available only while the entry remains submitted and its competition is open for editing. Work locked for review, judging or publication cannot be freely changed by the photographer.

Use the published event dates and stated time zone. Upload early enough to resolve file or connection issues. Purchasing access does not reserve a late submission or override an editing lock.

13

Certificates, Interviews and Magazines

Certificates are available for eligible results when issued by the organiser. Published magazines and galleries present selected work; membership does not guarantee editorial selection or a printed copy.

The team may invite selected photographers to an interview through their dashboard. Invited users can provide answers, a portrait and requested portfolio images for editorial review. An invitation or submitted interview is not a guarantee of publication.

14

Questions and Corrections

Use the Contact page for eligibility questions, payment issues or an apparent error in a credit or result. Include the relevant event, entry or invoice reference, but never send a password or full payment-card details.

Consult the current event announcement and membership or checkout details for settings specific to your entry or order. Where information is unclear or inconsistent, ask the organiser before submitting or purchasing.
